Welcome back to Bess’ Book Corner!

This week we will be reviewing Infaust by T.D. Cloud.

I found this book at a convention called JaFax. You can find hidden gems at these conventions; I cannot say I found one. Well, let's review.

Rehan is a witch who lost his familiar. The missions he is offered are terrible ones that no one wants or can do. A village calls upon his help to rescue their stolen children from a chaos god. Rehan agrees to help the village in exchange for a chance of a life he has lost since the death of his familiar. Rehan has come up with a plan to kill the chaos god. However, when he faces him things take an unexpected turn.

T.D. Cloud focuses her books on LGBTQIA+ dark fantasy romances. She has several books and she mainly advertises at comic/anime conventions. While browsing her table, the book Infaust caught my eye.

First, I am not a person who can ‘Did not finish'  (DNF) a book. If I was, this would be a book I would DNF. The plot of the story was unclear and there was no direction. The book made me feel like I was reading the second book in a three-book series. At a certain point, it felt like a chunk of the book was taken out of the final draft before publishing. This caused me to reread multiple times to understand what happened and fill in the missing pages with my imagination.

The character introduction was poorly done. I did not know what a chaos god was and all of a sudden he appeared. The backstories of the characters were unknown until the last half of the book, although their backstories were clear as mud.

The spice was borderline. There is consent only after much pestering and I felt it was invasive. Her writing style was good and I think she has potential. However, she needs more beef in her story.

Overall, I think she has the potential to make a great story. This book was not it. I felt confused about the plot throughout the book. I did not know what kind of romance it was until the end. She did very well in not oversharing the explicit scenes, but it was not my type of romance.

Rating 1.5/5

Fun Dog Facts: Dogs can learn over 100 words and gestures.

I put my hands up saying “no more” when I have given Bess her treat and she wants more. She then walks away knowing she isn't going to get any more from ME, she will go to my husband knowing she will get something from him. 😂

Please let me know your thoughts on this book if you have read it.

Also, put down your book recommendations for me to review!
